growth. john: , so, karen, if bill clinton kind the famous phrase that the era of big government over, did president obama launch the era of smart government? >> that's going to depend on what side of the aisle you were sitting on when you listened to the speech. but one thing about the speech, there was just a lot in it. he touched every single domestic policy initiative he has ever put together before, even the things that sounded sort of new -- minimum wage, raising it to $9 an hour. in his first campaign, he campaigned on raising it to $9.50 an hour by 2011 but what really came through to me in that speech was his declaration that essentially after two years of doing nothing but fighting with republicans over deficit reduction, he was no longer going to have deficit reduction define policy setting in washington. he said a balanced budget is an important thing but it is not the same as an economic plan. and i think he did that, in part, because the deficit has begun to come down but also because he realizes that has constrained him in doing a lot of other things he wants to do in h

going to say anything about because one of the board members karen is going to talk about that and computer classes. we have a wonderful lab -- how many do we have now? i want to say about 10 or 12 computers. we have three classes but people really learn at their own pace and what is amazing with our class and people come in and there is instruction and how to turn on the computer and not be squared to touch it and people can go as far as they want and people come regularly into the lab when there is not a class going on and they're typing in microsoft word. we had someone fighting an eviction with the land landlord there or use email and facebook and get to know other people and that is another one of our programs. we have a monthly general meeting we call it and everyone is welcome to come to that. we always meet on the second thursday of each month and from 10 to 12. we meet at the unitarian church at franklin and geary and each month we have a different topic so yesterday in honor of valentine's day we made it about health care and we had free blood pressure screening and we ha

dorner before a shootout in pa fire at a cabin tuesday night in big bear. jim and karen reynolds entered their condo in big bear tuesday and found dorner inside. he had apparently been hiding there since friday. they say the minute he saw them, he pulled out a gun and told them to stay calm. >> he wouldn't hurt us if we did what he said, followed his directions, we'd be okay. >> what are you thinking? >> i didn't believe him. i thought he was going to kill us. >> we saw so many pictures of him. and while he talked to me, he said, i know you've seen the news, i know you know who i am. >> he said, i don't have a problem with you, i just want to clear my name. >> dorner tied them up, stole their car and took off. that's when karen managed to get free and she called 911. it was that call that set into motion the chain of events that investigators believe ultimately led to dorner's death. dorner fled to another cabin where that stand-off began. police lobbed tear gas inside the cabin and that's what caused the fire. what's believed to be dorner's body was found inside that burned-out

. police haven't been able to find the baby. fox 5's karen gray houston has the story. >> reporter: 25-year-old chelsea booth is being held without bond. police say she has admitted to killing her 2-year-old daughter, cassady. >> she admitted to smothering the child. >> reporter: when did this happen? booth lives in the bay ridge gardens apartment complex in the eastport section of annapolis. security was tighter there than usual as police investigate what happened to the 2-year- old. this woman who says she's her best friend cannot believe chelsea is capable of murder. >> she's a sweet girl. she's kindhearted. she talks to everybody. you know, she's sweet as chocolate. i don't know what happened. i don't know. >> reporter: police say they heard from neighbors yesterday afternoon who were worried. they hadn't seen the child for days. >> she had a story about where her child should be. we kept looking into it, see if we could find the child, talk to the person she said the child was with. no luck. >> reporter: her friend tinea said she saw chelsea yesterday and she didn't seem like hers

talking about a couple, jim and karen reynolds. they lived and had a condominium here. they had come into the condominium to clean it up because they use it as a rental unit. when they walked in the door they were confronted by christopher dorner. he had apparently been living inside their condominium for what appears to be a number of days. they took time to explain how terrifying their ordeal was. >> karen screamed and started running. he ran after her. he caught her by the door. >> on the staircase. and i didn't. >> and brought her back. he had plastic ties. he made us put our hands behind our back and he tied our hands. made us walk into the back bedroom. >> did you think he was going to kill you then? >> when he had me laying on the ground, yes, i really did. i thought he's changed his mind. >> reporter: and that was just the beginning of the ordeal yesterday that led to the death it appears of christopher dorner inside that cabin. it was a long day that followed what took place with the family here. take a look now at what transpired throughout the course of the entire 24 hours

the couple to last speak to ex-cop christopher dorner. jim and karen reynolds entered their condo in big bear on tuesday and found borner inside. the minute he saw them, he pulled out a gun and told them to stay calm. then he spent the next 15 minutes talking to them. >> he wouldn't hurt us if we did what he said and followed his directions. it would be okay. >> what were you thinking? >> i didn't believe him. i thought he was going to kill us. >> we saw so many pictures of him and while he talked to me he said i know i know who i am. >> i don't have a problem with you. i just want to clear my name. >> dorner tied them up and gagged them and covered their heads with pillowcases. he stole their car and then just took off. karen managed to get free and she called 911. it was that call that set into motion the chain of events that ultimately led to dorner's death. what followed was a shootout between dorner and a fish and wildlife warden and then standoff in another cabin. police lobbed tear gas inside the cabin and that caused the fire. what's believed to be dorner's body was found

obama second at 51%. paul ryan, marco rubio, john boehner, all far behind. joining me now karen tumulte and david goodfriend. thank you for joining me. the analysis of the seven-point dive there, if that's the accurate word here, why do you believe the approval rating is sinking from december? >> a couple of things. in december, we just come off the large presidential election where both he and his republican opponents spent inordinate amounts of money to get the point across and people weigh the two messages. mitt romney versus barack obama and now left with sort of a generic feeling of the public how do you think things are going? as you put on the screen, most americans don't feel things are going well and will blame that on an incumbent. that having been said, the president's approval ratings are still strong as you point out, strong relative to congress and historical trends. i happen to think that the biggest news out of that poll is even after the republicans tried to tar her with benghazi, hillary clinton remains unbelievably strong and i think that's very, very telling.
